At What Age Should I Get An Eye Exam?

An experienced ophthalmologist and laser eye surgeon, Dr. Chris Walton also performs routine eye exams. If you are curious about eye exams because you are experiencing problems or changes with your vision, then definitely schedule an eye exam regardless of your age. Dr. Walton will determine the cause and help restore clear, sharp vision.

If, on the other hand, you are not experiencing any problems or changes, you don’t wear glasses or contacts, and your vision is generally good, then you really don’t need to have an eye exam. For people without lens prescriptions and no vision issues, there’s simply no need to see an eye doctor. That being said, be sure to schedule an eye exam if you have any reason to think you may need one.

For people without any problems, you should plan to have an eye exam around age 40. At this age, every person begins to develop presbyopia, which is an age-related change to your eyes that affects your near vision. Everyone around the age of 40 requires reading glasses because of presbyopia.
