What are the Symptoms of Cataracts?

An estimated 25 million Americans suffer from cataracts, according to the National Eye Institute. The condition becomes more prevalent as we age, with about 70% of adults aged 75 and older developing a cataract. Cataracts deteriorate vision and if left untreated, can lead to blindness. That’s why Dr. Chris Walton wants you to be aware of the symptoms of cataracts.

The lens of a healthy eye is crystal clear. But cataracts cloud the lens, and over time, this clouding interferes with your vision. Cataract symptoms to watch for include:

  • Blurry or cloudy vision
  • Less vibrant colors, often with a yellow hue
  • Poor night vision
  • Halo effects surrounding lights
  • Double vision in one eye
  • Light sensitivity

If you experience one or more of these, you may have a cataract. Dr. Walton will be able to make a definitive diagnosis.

If you are diagnosed with a cataract, you’ll probably need surgery. Cataract surgery is a very common and safe procedure in which Dr. Walton replaces your eye’s cloudy natural lens with an artificial one.

If you have any of the above symptoms, please contact Dr. Chris Walton using the form at the right side of the page or call 251-341-3385 today to schedule a cataract surgery consultation. We serve patients Mobile, Alabama, Pensacola, Florida, and throughout the Gulf Coast region.
