What is Monovision LASIK?

Part of the normal aging process causes changes to the eyes along with many other parts of the body. One of the common age-related vision changes, called presbyopia, causes the lens of the eye to become less flexible so that it can no longer change focus as easily. Nearly everyone is affected by presbyobia, usually beginning in your 40s, but our Pensacola LASIK surgeon may be able to help you ditch the reading glasses, even if you also have nearsightedness.

For about 3 out of 4 people with both presbyopia and nearsightedness (myopia), Monovision LASIK offers a solution. With this LASIK process, one eye is corrected to see distance and the other eye is corrected for near vision. Your brain adapts to each eye’s focal length and determines which eye to use depending on what you are looking at, eliminating the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses.

To find out if you are a good candidate for Monovision LASIK, Dr. Walton will give you contact lenses to wear for 4 days as a trail before performing the surgery. This will allow him to be sure your brain can adjust to the separate focus distances.
