Toric Premium Intraocular Lens (IOL)

About Toric IOLs

Cataract surgery is performed to remove your eye’s clouded lens (caused by the development of cataracts) and replace it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Dr. Chris Walton offers several premium IOL options to provide you with the best possible vision after your cataract surgery procedure. One of these options is the Toric IOL.

Toric IOLs are an ideal option if you need to correct astigmatism as part of your cataract surgery. These premium IOLs can help reduce or eliminate the need for prescription glasses after your cataract surgery procedure.

The best way to find out whether the Toric IOL is a good option for you is to speak with Dr. Walton in person. Please call 251-341-3385 today to schedule a free consultation at our office in Mobile, Alabama.

What is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a condition that occurs when the cornea and/or lens of your eye have an oval shape instead of a circular shape. As a result, light passes through your cornea and lens at different locations, creating different focal points which lead to blurry vision at all distances.

Dr. Walton can use a Toric IOL during your cataract surgery in order to treat moderate to high levels of astigmatism. This provides you with the dual benefit of eliminating the vision issues associated with cataracts and astigmatism in one procedure.

How do Toric IOLs work?

The Toric IOL consists of a lens that is convex on both sides. The double convex design is what allows the Toric IOL to correct astigmatism as well as eliminate the cloudy vision caused by cataracts.

Benefits of Toric IOLs include:

  • 94% of patients achieve 20/40 distance vision or better without corrective lenses (based on clinical trial data)
  • Improved contrast sensitivity in low light
  • Reduction in higher order aberrations
  • Improved night vision
