Can I Get LASIK after Cataract Surgery?

The short answer is yes, most likely you could get LASIK in the months following your cataract surgery. The catch is, you may not need LASIK after cataract surgery, because the latter often corrects any refractive errors you have anyway. Intraocular Lenses can Correct Refractive Errors

During cataract surgery, the clouded natural lens is removed and replaced with a new, artificial eye lens. These are called “intraocular lenses,” or IOLs. Some of these IOLs not only replace the lens, but can also correct astigmatism, nearsightedness or farsightedness.

It is the premium IOLs that can accomplish vision correction. We offer ReSTOR and Toric premium lenses. Once Dr. Walton examines your eyes and reviews your vision prescription, he can determine if one of these premium lenses can offer the dual benefit of cataract reversal and vision correction you are interested in.

If you do opt for a premium lens, Dr. Walton performs these with LenSx laser cataract surgery. Unlike conventional techniques, the LenSx method utilizes state-of-the-art laser technology to improve precision and visual outcomes. You won’t need reading glasses after LenSx and you most likely will not need LASIK either.

Dr. Walton also offers conventional cataract removal and conventional implantable lenses. While this may mean you need reading glasses or LASIK after cataract surgery, the conventional surgery is covered by most insurance policies, which is why some people opt for it instead of laser cataract correction.
